Interestingly, Dr. McDade, a native of Greensboro, had also played the same position while attending LaGrange College in southwest Georgia. There had been no injury that had led him to chiropractic, however. He says, “My original plan had been to go to dental school, but in my senior year in college, I realized that dentistry wasn’t for me.
“I decided to go to chiropractic school without ever having visited a chiropractor,” he explains, adding that he began to read about the principles behind chiropractic and became intrigued. “Chiropractic allows the patient the ability to regain their life through noninvasive procedures. The practice allows the body to realize its full potential.”
He was so intrigued that he visited the Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After that visit, he enrolled in the school. Coincidentally, that’s the same school from which Dr. Myers had graduated in 2018.
While attending Sherman, Dr. McDade learned that Dr. Myers was looking for another chiropractor to join his practice. He explains, “Two Marches ago, I came up here and shadowed Dr. Myers for a day. After that, I came up a couple more times.” He says that during his senior year in chiropractic school, he had the opportunity to see patients in a hands-on environment. The last three months of his senior year were spent working in both East Coast Elite’s Powhatan and Blackstone offices. “I saw patients with severe issues starting to get better very quickly. I thought that was a cool and enlightening point in time,” he adds.
Dr. Myers has nothing but praise for his young associate. “ I’m beyond excited to have him on board. The reason we hired him is because he is fantastic with patients and will bring new techniques to patient care”.” Referring to the fact that both doctors share a similar approach to offering personalized care for each patient, and perhaps because they share a passion for the game of baseball, Dr. Myers jokes, “Austin is essentially a taller, better-looking version of myself.”
Regarding that caring philosophy, which the two men share, Dr. McDade says, “I had options to go other places, but I feel like I fit in well, here.”
While the technology offered at East. Coast Elite may be some of the very best available in the state, Dr. Myers emphasizes that what is most important to him, Dr. McDade, and the entire staff is the genuine concern shown to each patient. “Honestly,” he says, “the technology is the cherry on top.”
