Come Together for Goochland Day

By Steve Cook

Are you ready for Goochland Day? Goochland Day is bigger and better than ever. And that’s why this year Goochland Day, on May 18 is preceded by Goochland Night on the 17th. Both night and day promise to offer lots of fun and entertainment for residents of Goochland and beyond.

Sponsored by the Goochland Day Foundation (GDF), the event’s mission is to bring folks together for a day of family fun and to help foster and nurture Goochland’s strong sense of community. Goochland Day provides the perfect venue for residents to support local organizations and businesses.

And this year, as we say, you’ll have even more fun with the introduction of Goochland Night. On Friday, the GDF presents Goochland Night, a fundraiser event for Goochland Day. It’s a night of music with the local band, The Castaways, opening for the main feature, Good Shot Judy, the “Mid-Atlantic's number-one High Octane Swing Band.” Tickets in advance are just $10 and only $15 at the gate. For information visit the Goochland Day website (see below). Beer, wine, cider, and food trucks will be on hand. The concert will be held at NAPA Field, 1800 Sandy Hook Road.

This year, the GDF is partnering with Relay for Life of Goochland and Louisa to raise awareness and support those who have overcome cancer as well as those who are continuing the battle and also to provide resources for caretakers.

On Saturday, the fun continues with lots of free events and attractions for kids of all ages. First, at 10 a.m., comes the parade, where you’ll see marching bands, unique cars, animals, Miss Goochland, the Scouts, and local businesses. The parade starts at the Courthouse Green and ends at the Elementary School.

Then at 11, there’s more free fun. Shop local vendors; enjoy hometown food, wine, and beer; listen and dance to live music; challenge the inflatables; and pet the cute little farm animals. There’ll be hands-on demonstrations and much more.
