Around the Home with Kate – Tips for Hosting an Unforgettable Super Bowl Party

By Kaitlyn Bruce :

The Super Bowl is the biggest sports finale in the US, so the pressure is real when it comes to hosting. What are some things that can solidify your status as the MVP Super Bowl host?

The key to a truly memorable party is one where your guests feel immediately at home. Try to keep the atmosphere cozy and fun. In the spirit of cozy, think about the TV like a campfire. This is the focal point, where your guests will be fixated the majority of the time. So, make the area comfortable. Pull in extra chairs and TV trays, toss down a few soft blankets or floor cushions, and make sure nobody has to crane their neck to watch the game. Don’t forget that small details are important, such as having napkins available near seating areas and the trash bins clearly visible. This way, your guests feel they can walk around freely without the awkwardness of asking you for something.

Helpful Tip: A small secondary screen (even a tablet propped in the kitchen) makes people feel included when they wander off for snacks.

Let’s talk food. The secret to being an amazing host is keeping things simple and stress-free. Choose make-ahead dishes, sheet pan meals, or crockpot favorites so you can spend more time with your guests and less time in the kitchen. Wings, sliders, meatballs, a big pot of chili, and chips and dip are classics for a reason! Platters of fresh veggies or fruit are great additions for balance and variety. Check out this month’s recipe for a 7-layer dip that guests will love! For larger gatherings, you might consider catering to save time and effort. Local restaurants featured in our publications offer some excellent options.

Helpful Tip: Get some non-expensive “take-home” containers for sending home leftovers with your guests. It helps with clean up and sends your friends home feeling special.

Keep in mind, not everyone attends for the football—some guests are there for the commercials, halftime show, snacks, or simply to enjoy good company. Make sure there are activities for all types of guests. Consider setting up a card or board game table away from the TV, so non-fans have their own space without distracting those watching the game.

Remember, anything that feels homemade, thoughtful, or easygoing will always beat trying to “impress” people. And try not to get so caught up in hosting that you forget to have fun!
