Have you had enough of this long hot summer? Don’t throw in the towel. There’s still lots of indoor fun to be had. Here are our suggestions for ways to beat both the heat and the humidity.
Get Cookin’
They say if you can’t stand the heat get into the kitchen. Okay, they don’t really say that but it’s not a bad idea. The kitchen to which we refer is The Kitchen Classroom (TheKitchenClassroom.com) in Richmond’s West End. These folks offer interactive cooking classes that include knife skills classes, date night cooking classes, cocktail classes, and classes that will help you create culinary classics from around the world.
Discover Your Artistic Side
Did you ever think that with a little help, you could be the next Michelangelo or Warhol, or even Hunter Biden? Well, nothing can get those creative juices flowing any better than a sweltering, hot summer day. Even if you don’t buy my line of reasoning, why not explore your creative side at the Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen.
In addition to four free art galleries, which may help to stimulate your creativity, The Center offers a wide variety of art classes. True, many of the classes started in July but there are still a number of classes scheduled for August and beyond. Carving, jewelry design, dance – these are just a few of the areas you might be interested in exploring. Visit online (ArtsGlenAllen.com) or phone 804-261-ARTS (2787) to learn more.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were a place where you could play golf without having to endure the summer’s heat as you trudge an 18-hole course during a typical Richmond-area summer’s day? Well, there is such a place. It’s Drive Shack (DriveShack.com). Enjoy playing in one of their all-weather bays, where the climate is always just right. But what makes this even better are Drive Shack’s friendly Bay Caddies who’ll deliver refreshing beverages (adult included) along with tasty food right to your bay.
Drive Shack is not just a driving range. With their TRACKMAN™ technology, they combine classic games, like blackjack, with golf to create the latest and greatest gaming experience. Want to hit the links instead? Play one of their virtual golf courses as if you were on the course. No sunscreen needed.
Go To The Park
Now, keep in mind, I’m not saying go to the park. Certainly, the area offers a number of great public parks, all of which are outdoors. So, go to The Park. This Park (ThePark.com) offers all sorts of indoor fun, such as duckpin bowling, miniature golf, virtual golf, pool tables, and arcade games. Their menu features wings, pizza, sandwiches, and desserts. There’s a kid’s menu, too. You can enjoy your favorite adult beverages at the bar. They also have some really cool spaces if you want to host a private party. Truly, a day at The Park is like a day at the park.
