Discover the “Manorhouse Difference”

When an aging parent can no longer care for their needs independently, many adult children face both the emotional as well as the practical challenges of finding an assisted living community that will give both the parents and their children peace of mind.

“Especially since Covid, folks have been most interested in not only the quality of the care that our residents receive but also in the quality of our staffing,” says Valerie Robinson, Director of Resident Relations at Manorhouse Assisted Living & Memory Care at 13500 Gayton Road in Short Pump.

Interestingly, according to recent surveys, staffing has been a major issue with care facilities, especially since Covid. According to a recent report, nearly 60 percent of assisted living communities said their overall workforce situation has gotten worse since 2020. Many point to employee retention as being a serious problem.

This is definitely not a problem at Manorhouse. Robinson, who, herself, has been with Manorhouse since before it even opened its doors over eight-and-a-half years ago, cites the fact that the facility is locally owned and operated as being an important factor in keeping both members of its staff as well as its residents feeling well cared for.

“It (the local ownership) really makes a difference,” she says. “We can respond immediately to the needs of our residents and our staff. There’s no waiting around for approval from some board of directors, where the primary concern is the bottom line.”

Robinson points to several key members of both the nursing team as well as other support services, who have been at Manorhouse for five years or more. Even LuAnn Paul, the Executive Director has been at the Short Pump location for four years, having previously worked at another area Manorhouse.

Lakia Coleman is a long time Nursing Assistant in Manorhouses’s memory care neighborhood.

A Manorhouse employee for 7 years, June Eldridge is an experienced Medication Technician.

“In an industry that has a reputation for turnover, Manorhouse is not only the community of choice for families, but the employer of choice, as well,” she says.

However, statistics are not what families are most interested in when searching for the ideal home for loved ones who need the additional care. Generally, decisions are made more on the impression one gets when visiting such a facility.

Having visited Manorhouse and several of its residents on many occasions over the years, I could share my personal impressions of happy people enjoying a beautiful, meticulously cared for community.

But this is something you need to discover for yourself. Take a tour. Speak to both residents and staff members. You’ll quickly note the Manorhouse difference. The quality, the design, the open, bright, spacious accommodations are quickly recognized and appreciated. A visit to Manorhouse is truly a breath of fresh air.

Spend just a few moments speaking with residents who will gladly share the joys of regular excursions to the nearby mall, restaurants, and other destinations. The residents interact with each other as well as the staff as if they were all one big family.
