If you grew up in or around Richmond, you probably have fond memories of visiting the Diamond, eating cotton candy, and enjoying not only a baseball game, but fireworks. The Diamond is no longer in use, but CarMax Park, the new state-of-the-art ballpark located at 2929 N Arthur Ashe Blvd, is now officially the home of the Richmond Flying Squirrels. It is part of the Diamond District, which will eventually include apartments, hotels, stores, restaurants, and a public green space.
CarMax Park is a family friendly ballpark and through their partnership with Bon Secours, their official healthcare partner, they are able to provide multiple spaces for families and those with young children. At the Bon Secours Base Camp & Lawn, families will enjoy a playground with structures for ages ranging from 2 to 12. The Lawn is a beautifully terraced turf seating area close to the playground where you can still see the game. The Bon Secours Nursing Nest, a private space for nursing mothers and caregivers, is also available.
There are twenty luxury suites at CarMax Park, perfect for entertaining families, clients, employees, or for use for a celebration. It is a year-round venue, with multiple climate-controlled spaces and the ability to host concerts, festivals, and private events. One of the most popular suites, the Atlantic Union Bank Lounge, comes with an all-you-can-eat buffet, a private bartender, and spectacular views of the ballpark.
There are multiple seating options, at differing price points, including The Lawn (no seats, but perfect for lounging with a blanket), the Woodfin Yard Club (Adirondack chairs with prime views), the Bullpen Rails, classic ballpark seating, and much more. The Patio, a multi-terraced beer garden in left field, is open to all ticket holders and is even next to the visiting team’s bullpen.
With a wide variety of exciting concessions offerings, spectators can choose from BBQ plates, specialty burgers, hot chicken, burritos, and much more. They also have a couple of quick grab-and-go options, including the 804 Market. Drinks will continue to include delicious local craft beer, as well as wine, seltzers, cocktails, and Pepsi products.
CarMax Park certainly has something for everybody. We are excited to see all that it has to offer and can’t wait to see the Flying Squirrels, NutZy, and Nutasha this summer.
